Local media spoke with residents who live in the vicinity, as well as young Cambodians who work as online gambling agents at the site. One young man said he could make over US$500 a month, which is a good salary for the area, but he had to work 12-hour shifts through the night. He told journalists that the only job requirements were the ability to type and basic English language skills.

The commune chief confirmed to journalists that online gambling was being run from the site and that the workforce included Cambodians as well as people from Africa, Bangladesh, and Vietnam, alongside a majority of Chinese.

Incidents

In May 2025, local media reported that untreated wastewater from the site was polluting local water sources.
